Robert Smith, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, eIS

Client focus and problem solving are part of eIS Business Solutions (eIS) founder and CEO Robert Smith’s (“Bob”) DNA. In 1991, Smith established the company now known as eIS Business Solutions, aiming to lead a new wave of business technology impact by working with owners, executives and employees of companies to implement realistic business solutions.

While Smith oversees the direction of the company, he stays involved in all projects from a technical and operational standpoint. It is not uncommon to see Bob conduct training, write a modification or offer phone support on occasion. “The beauty of a small company is that you get to wear many hats, and the duties change at any given moment,” says Smith. “My passion is interacting with clients and diagnosing problems, as it helps me understand their needs – their feedback is important in making decisions concerning the direction of eIS and how we might improve our clients’ overall success,” he emphasizes.

Smith’s career experience demonstrates his breadth and depth of industry knowledge. It includes working in client service for Merrill Lynch as well as serving as an accountant for a high-tech manufacturing firm. In later roles, he documented business processes and procedures for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and worked for Ernst & Young implementing micro computer-based accounting systems. In addition, Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, computer programming and psychology, having also completed advanced studies in computer programming from Farleigh Dickinson and Monmouth Universities.

When asked why he feels passionate about his work, Smith’s answer is simple, reflecting the energy he contributes to each client project. “I enjoy the unique challenges that each business brings,” he says. “When a client asks us to come in and improve their systems, I find the process invigorating. Solving problems and designing creative solutions are what we enjoy most and what we do best.”

Susan Gerber, CPA, Business Solutions Implementation Director, New Business Director, eIS

Susan Gerber, CPA is a pioneer at heart. As Business Solutions Implementation Director and New Business Director at eIS Business Solutions (eIS), Ms. Gerber has been with the company since its inception.

“I enjoy helping people and I believe in the products we offer to our clients,” says Ms. Gerber. “When I meet with prospects and am able to find and implement a suitable software package for them, there’s a certain feeling of success and accomplishment knowing that the solution we implemented makes a real difference,” she adds.

With prior financial management experience at companies such as Tiffany & Co. and E&B Marine, in addition to public accounting experience with the “Big 8,” Ms. Gerber’s breadth of experience gives her a unique, client-focused perspective. In addition, she also has worked in manufacturing, retail, government, distribution and business operations.

“Susan is a critical part of our team,” says Robert Smith, founder and president of eIS. “From the beginning, she has brought her unique combination of insight and talent to the eIS team, providing our clients with business and industry knowledge that cultivates trust with them.”

Ms. Gerber describes herself as “conscientious, hard-working and detailed.” When asked what she likes best about being part of the eIS team, she says, “I love getting exposure to the different industries and learning how the companies we work with got started and have grown… and I enjoy being part of their growth process!”

Janice Caldwell, Senior Software Architect, eIS

Seasoned IT consultant Janice Caldwell is no stranger to the IT solutions world. In 2004, she joined eIS Business Solutions (eIS) as senior software architect after more than two decades in the IT solutions business. Prior to eIS, she operated her own consulting company, primarily working with manufacturing companies by providing mid-range software solutions.

For Caldwell, the work and team at eIS are natural complements to her skills and interests. “At eIS we have a group of extremely hard-working, dedicated individuals who work together as one – a true team. Personally, I enjoy the fact that no two days are alike and no two problems are exactly the same,” she says.

Caldwell notes that her passion for IT consulting comes from threading together the business and technology worlds. “I consider myself an IT consultant who understands business – not just technology. I enjoy analyzing challenging situations that cause a business to run ineffectively, and then providing a cost-effective solution, either through software modifications or just simply through recommended process changes,” she explains. 

Outside of her job, she shares her IT knowledge with the greater community. In fact, Caldwell spent 20 years as a volunteer for a computer user group specializing in IT education for thousands of members worldwide. She focused on manufacturing and professional development, particularly project management.

Anyone who meets Caldwell can quickly see that she offers the special qualities it takes to get jobs done effectively and efficiently for eIS clients – her co-workers enthusiastically describe her as determined, conscientious and hard working. Caldwell says, “There are so many aspects of my work that I like, but I especially enjoy the end result – an extremely satisfied client.”
